  —John Wooden

Alums quarterback Joey Harrington and Nike founder Phil Knight attended the MacArthur Court Saturday morning sellout that featured the #1 ranked and unbeaten UCLA Bruins and the #16 Oregon Ducks.  The Ducks led by 10 at the half and were without standout forward Makik Hairston.  The game was telecast by Foxsports.

Oregon coach, Ernie Kent was a member of the 1974 team that similar win over a number one ranked UCLA team.

Meanwhile, the Pac 10 men’s basketball season is off to a well balanced and highly competitive start.

* Meanwhile, the latimes reports today that Senator Barbara Boxer of Marin Country and Brooklyn, New York has with down an “award”  granted by her office to a rapidly growing Islamic group with an office in Sacramento.  She has called the award a “mistake” when possible group ties to overseas politically active Muslim groups came to her attention.

Boxer is the new chairperson of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.  She has been outspoken in her criticism of the Bush Administration because of possible security threats to seaports.
